Modern parts cleaning makes maintenance safer and more cost-effective for rail transport companies

From cleaning to paint stripping: BvL systems create the ideal basis for inspection, maintenance and downstream processing

Safe and cost-effective maintenance processes for rail transport companies start with clean rail components. At InnoTrans 2026, BvL Oberflächentechnik GmbH will show how modern cleaning solutions support railway operators, maintenance providers and manufacturers in reliably preparing components for inspection, maintenance, coating and reuse.

Whether bogies, wheelsets, wheel bearings, bearing housings, motors, stators or rotors: only reliably cleaned and stripped components create the basis for precise maintenance, safe crack testing, high-quality new coatings and thus a high level of operational safety. In daily use, rail components are exposed to extreme loads and stubborn contamination. Dust, brake abrasion, oil, grease, metallic abrasion and gearbox residues make inspections and downstream processes more difficult.

Individually designed system concepts for rail components

BvL provides individually designed system concepts that can be adapted precisely to the component, contamination, cycle time and available space. Large-parts washing systems for heavy components such as bogies and wheelsets enable thorough cleaning, even in areas that are difficult to access. Continuous-flow systems for applications such as wheel bearings and bearing housings ensure stable cleaning processes and short throughput times with high quantities. Special nozzle systems, matched drying technology and intelligent handling solutions improve cleaning quality and reduce manual work steps.

Greater efficiency through automated processes

Automated material flows, clear assignment of component sets and integrated bath maintenance concepts increase process reliability, energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This reduces operating costs, extends media service life and provides optimal support for existing maintenance processes.

Automated removal of impact protection coatings

For wheelset shafts, the company offers robot-assisted paint stripping systems that remove impact protection coatings non-abrasively using a high-pressure water jet. The automated process ensures precision and consistent quality. The surfaces are treated gently, prepared with a bright metallic finish and can be transferred directly to subsequent inspection or coating processes. BvL places a special focus on the media and energy efficiency of these systems. Despite the high particle input caused by the stripping process, the medium is kept in a closed circuit. For this purpose, BvL has integrated a specially developed complete filtration and treatment system. This enables low water consumption, reduced operating costs and compliance with high environmental requirements in rail operations.

Solution-oriented partner for the rail industry

With decades of experience in industrial parts cleaning, extensive references in the railway sector and an international service and sales network, BvL stands for solution-oriented system concepts that focus on customer benefits.
